He’s Finally Famous. Big Sean is set to release his debut, a sixteen song list that is replete with high-quality production, pioneering rhyming and measures up to its hype. Should it be surprising? No!… Kanye West’s label, G.O.O.D. Music has Big Sean’s skills on tap, at least for the present and more than likely with this set of tracks, the future. While I’m not on the bandwagon that Big Sean is the future of hip-hop, Finally Famous is undeniably plausible as a record that is definitively mainstream ready and needs to be bumped more than once to appreciate its sonic delivery.
Opening with “I Do It,” Big Sean skillfully creates a rewind worthy song. The Cali born-Detroit raised 23 year old has a knack for putting words together that leave you asking the question where did he come up with that? Big Sean is definitely unique, as evident by “Memories (Part II),” a reflective flashback with John Legend aiding the chorus or the club banger, “Live This Life,” where he stamps his style over a No I.D. summertime beat.  Throughout Finally Famous, it feels as though Big Sean is penning his epic, much like Kanye West’s The College Dropout. Finally Famous is an album that stands on its own and will be hard to follow-up due to the ease of enjoy ability. “So Much More,” is Finally Famous’ penultimate.
Big Sean is without doubt living his dream – one that includes celebrity status, entertaining cuts and a driven freshness that expresses his verve in a scene marred with copy and paste cookie cutter similarities and music that you can take or leave.
Final Grade: PARL
Picks: “So Much More,” “Live This Life,” “High,” “Memories (Part II)”
