New York bred Young Stretch; Queens raised rapper began his writing career at the tender age of 12. His 10th grade anthem “Heading to the top” sparked the flame to the fire for the young artist. Parlé Magazine: Where are you from?

Young Stretch: I’m reppin all over New York but I was born in Queens.

Parlé: Exactly how did you come up with the nickname “Young Stretch”?

Young Stretch: It was given to me at a young age; I heard it and went along with it. I was always slim and tall so it fit well.

Parlé Magazine: Who are some?

Musical influences?

Young Stretch: Definitely Jay-Z, Kanye West or any lyricist.

Parlé Magazine: At what point did you decide to become a rapper?

Young Stretch: I was always writing poetry since about the 6th or 7th grade, it was natural. My mother loved music along with my father.

Parlé Magazine: What was your first song?

Young Stretch: “Heading to the top” in about 10th grade it created a little buzz around high school.

Parlé Magazine: As of yet, was there a point that you wanted to quit?

Young Stretch: No, I was always focused and I was always writing trying to perfect my craft.

Parlé Magazine: What message do you want to send with your music?

Young Stretch: A positive message just inspiring people to believe in themselves.

Parlé Magazine: What’s one song past/present that best describes you?

Young Stretch: It would have to be, Jay-Z “Regrets”.

Parlé Magazine: What’s success to you?

Young Stretch: Being successful is just doing what you love to do, no matter the amount of money. Someone could have a job making $90,000 but still not be successful because it’s not what they love to do.

Parlé Magazine: Do you tend to write your lyrics or Do you freestyle most of your lyrics?

Young Stretch: Depending on the song that I’m doing, it’s good mixture between the two.

Parlé Magazine: If you can change one thing in the industry what would it be?

Young Stretch: I would personally give artist more power, instead of the people at the label pushing someone. Just letting the artist be the artist.

Parlé Magazine: How important is the company you keep?

Young Stretch: You are who you surround yourself with, I surround myself with Business savvy positive people.

Parlé Magazine: Anything else that you’re branching off into?

Young Stretch: Music, new music also July-ish my clothing line featuring T-Shirts for now entitled “Bread and Butter” besides that just grinding.
