Streaming giant Netflix released its first trailer for “The Vince Staples Show” starring rapper and actor Vince Staples. The new comedy series, executive produced by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth, and William Stefan Smith is set to premiere on February 15. Edelman and Williams additionally co-created the series with Staples.

Based in Long Beach, California, “The Vince Staples Show” is loosely based on Staples’ life as it follows him on his daily adventures and shows his day-to-day challenges. In the comedic series, he’s seen “navigating life as a kind of famous, kind of rich, kind of criminal (but not really) rapper,” as Netflix described him in their latest statement.

The five-episode series includes a recurring guest cast including Vanessa Bell Calloway (Coming to America, This Is Us) and Andrea Ellsworth (BlackAF, Gentefied) as well as Arturo Castro, Scott MacArthur, Naté Jones, Bryan Greenberg, and Myles Bullock as guest stars.

Back in 2022, Staples shared his excitement for the show with the Hollywood Reporter.

“I am excited to partner with Netflix and Kenya Barris on “The Vince Staples Show.” This has been something I have been developing for some time, and I am happy it’s coming to fruition,” he told the outlet.

Widely known for his stellar talent as a musician and later as an actor, the Compton-born artist is one of the most memorable of his generation. He’s released four studio albums: Summertime 06, Big Fish Theory, FM!, Vince Staples and Ramona Park Broke My Heart and headlined four tours. He’s also a part of hip hop trio Cutthroat Boyz alongside fellow Californian rappers Joey Fatts and Aston Matthews.

Vince Staples’ rise to prominence began with appearances on albums by Odd Future members and his collaborative mixtape with late rapper Mac Miller titled Stolen Youth. In 2014 he released his debut EP Hell Can Wait, which spawned the singles “Hands Up” and “Blue Suede” (the latter’s music video has garnered over 20 million views to date). The following year, in 2015, Staples was featured on the XXL Freshman Class list alongside Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf, K Camp, Shy Glizzy, and others.

Outside of his musical career, Staples appeared in the Hulu-released remake of the hit 1992 film “White Men Can’t Jump,” “Dope,” and the hit TV series “Abbott Elementary.” He was also cast in Showtime’s “The Wood,” based on the cult classic 1999 film and guest starred in Issa Rae’s HBO series “Insecure.” He additionally appeared as a voice actor in adult cartoons American Dad! and Lazor Wolf and became a spokesperson and ambassador for Sprite in 2015.

“It’s our mission to work with the best artists in the world. Vince has already established himself as one of the most talented young musicians today and we’re really excited about how his sensibility – and sense of humor – will translate into a unique comedy series,” Netflix Head of Comedy Tracey Pakosta said about the rapper and actor when “The Vince Staples Show” was first announced.
