Songstress V. Bozeman Is A Quiet Storm

Hailing from Southern California, the rough and tumble streets of South Central, Los Angeles, to be exact, emerges singer-actress V. Bozeman, the newest protégé of super-producer Timbaland.  V. Bozeman was introduced along with Tink last year when Timbaland launched his new label venture with Epic Records, Mosley Music Group.  Timbaland is also at the helm of her latest hit single, “Smile.” Now let’s get to know a little bit more about That Girl V.

Parlé Magazine:  Tell me your whole inception into music. When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it actually all begin for V. Bozeman?
V. Bozeman:  I’ve always been a singer. I can’t remember ever not singing. I got my start in music when I was a teenager. I used to tour Europe with the Crenshaw Elite Choir. We were celebrities over there. Mrs. Stevenson, our choir director, was the first person to teach me the professional side of music.

Parlé:  Now where exactly do you hail from? And growing up there, who all did/do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?
V. Bozeman:  I’m from South Central, L.A.. All the best singers in my church were my influences. Gospel singers. And, of course, Whitney Houston has a huge influence on me. HUGE.

Parlé:  At what point in time, specifically, did you even opt to pursue music on a professional level?
V. Bozeman:  After I graduated from high school. I tried college for a year and just decided I really wanted to really go after my dream.

Parlé:  That being said, how do you classify your overall sound and style?
V. Bozeman:  I have a diverse sound. I co-sister tone a worldly artist. A global singer / brand. I can sing anything. I’m like a chameleon when it comes to singing.

Parlé:  Let’s hop right into this brand new single “Smile.”  Tell me about this particular track? How did it come to fruition?
V. Bozeman:  “Smile” is actually the first song I recorded with Timbaland. I fell in LOVE with this record. it was different and special. It was a song that Timbo dedicated to his wife. I loved the sentiment behind it and I was all in.

Parlé:  How did this connection with Timbaland even come about?
V. Bozeman:  I’ve known Timbaland a long time since… Timothy Bloom and I had our record “‘Til The End Of Time.” He said he would come back for me and he did just that.

Parlé:  In terms of your forthcoming solo debut, what can you reveal and/or divulge about said project at this time?
V. Bozeman:  It’s gonna be AMAZING music. You’re gonna hear and see all the sides of me and the make up of me musically. Very big global records, but at the same time my soulful roots. Combining a young sound and old soul at the same time.

Parlé:  You also currently star as Veronica on the mega-hit Fox series ‘Empire.’  How did you manage to land this role?
V. Bozeman:  Timbaland sent Lee Daniels some music I did and Lee automatically wrote me in the series.

Parlé:  What is the story arc of your character going from season one to now since you’re in the 2nd season?
V. Bozeman:  My character “Veronica” is just trying to find her place. She’s a bit overlooked, when in fact she’s the diamond in the rough amongst all that chaos. She’s gonna have her special moment very soon.

Parlé:  Are there any direct parallels to your character, Veronica, and V.Bozeman?
V. Bozeman:  Yes. She’s a fiery determined soul that just wants to be heard. She won’t let anything stop her from reaching her dream. A quiet storm if you will.

Parlé:  What do you feel you bring to the music industry that we don’t already have in other performers?
V. Bozeman:  Class, grace, uniqueness, born and bread from South Central, L.A.. A big unapologetic voice. Fresh! Black, beautiful, dark, bald headed and bold.

Parlé:  Have you encountered any problems in getting to this point in your career?
V. Bozeman:  Yes… But I don’t dwell on the negative. Everybody has a story in getting to the top. I had my cross to bear, but I just kept the faith and I understood that God has given me a mission while here on this Earth and I’m gonna complete it. I knew it wasn’t gonna be easy for me.

Parlé:  What do you want people to get from your music?
V. Bozeman:  I want them to get a healing. To be inspired and be able to just escape within the music. Music is powerful. I want people to feel that undeniable power again.

Parlé:  If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
V. Bozeman:  Whitney Houston because she molded me to be the singer / performer that I am today. Rest her soul. She is and always will be “The Voice”…

Parlé:  If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?
V. Bozeman:  I would want to perform at the White House or an inauguration. Carnegie Hall would be a dream, too!
