2020 is set to be one of the biggest years for sport. There are numerous events taking place across the globe, and once again, we’ll see a range of talent on the sporting stage. There are lots of things to look forward to, both at home and away, and the great thing is you can watch live or from the comfort of your own home. Most events will be covered on television so you can catch up on all the action, no matter what time zone you’re in.

If you’re looking forward to some of the larger events of the year, such as the Olympics, why not throw a party and get all your friends and family involved? There are also plenty of other sports such as Euro 2020 and the Grand Prix that are favorites to watch.

So if you’re looking forward to a massive season of sport, check out some of the biggest events on the sporting calendar this year.

April

Next month sees the return of the LPGA major in California. Then it’s onto the men’s golf major the week after, where Tiger Woods will be defending his title. The Grand National is set to hit our screens too with more Tiger time, where there will be hopes to bag a trio of wins to match Red Rum’s historical record. Check out the free bet offers that are available so that you can place a wager on your favorites. The London Marathon is also another big event happening this month, and it’s always a fantastic atmosphere if you can get to to see it.

May

If you love football, then May is the month for you. Both the men’s and women’s FA cup are happening at Wembley, with other significant footballing events taking place in Vienna and Istanbul. For cycling enthusiasts, the first of three cycling tours start in Budapest. Plus, the Nitro World Games heads to Cardiff for a huge action-packed sporting spectacular. If you’re a fan of American sporting events, the Kentucky Derby is taking place this month, and the Indianapolis 500 is set to be a thrillseekers delight.

June

The Euros are a prominent feature in June, and England and Wales are guaranteed a qualification spot so far, with Ireland and Scotland in the playoffs. Although football dominates this month, other sporting events include Copa America in Argentina and Columbia, and the three golf majors — including the US Open. There are also three rugby union finals to be won. Royal Ascot returns too with a fun-packed horseracing event, and we can’t forget the infamous Ladies Day outfits.

July

The Olympics will dominate July, and although there is some concern over current health issues, it is still set to be one of the biggest events of the year. There are several medal hopefuls such as Dina Asher-Smith and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Plus, there is a host of new activities this season with surfing and skateboarding being part of the line-up. The UK’s biggest tennis tournament at Wimbledon also returns, and this year there’s a range of hotly anticipated newcomers set to challenge the big stars.

August

After the buzz of the Olympics in July, the torch is then passed to the Paralympics, where over 4,400 athletes are set to compete. In other sporting events, England will complete the Test Series. Plus, the Premier League and the Football League return for the start of the new season. In athletics, the European athletics championships will see competitor’s head to France. Tennis fans can also catch the Canadian Open.

September

Golf is a massive hit in September, with the Ryder Cup returning to our screens. Europe is hoping to retain its title, and hopefully, the Scottish feel to the Wisconsin course will give them an advantage. This month also sees the return of the Tour of Britain. It starts in Cornwall, which is the first time the course has started in the county. Plus, if cycling is your thing, the world championships are also taking place in the beautiful mountainous regions of Vaud and Valais in Switzerland.

October

Formula One will be entering the home straight with races in Japan and the USA. The Champions League group stages are also a top fixture not to be missed. The Chicago Marathon and Baseball World Series in the US are always huge crowd drawers too. If you’re a rugby fan, you won’t want to miss the Rugby League Ashes either.

November

As the Formula One season draws to a close, we’ll see the drivers head to Abu Dhabi for the final showdown. There are lots of season endings such as the men’s and women’s tennis, plus golf. This month also has two of the most significant horseracing events of the year — the Melbourne and Breeder’s Cup. The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is also set to be an unmissable event.

December

It’s always a little quieter on the sporting front in December. However, there are a few festive staples not to be missed. The PDC World Darts is still a lively event. Plus, there’s always the post-Christmas football and horse racing to enjoy. In athletics, the European cross-country championships will be taking place in Ireland, and the snooker UK Championship is heading to York. This month, the BBC also announces its Sports Personality of the Year award for the past year.

England also made a fantastic comeback in the cricket when they won the test series against South Africa. The Super Bowl returned in February and was once again a vast showcase event. Plus, Tyson Fury became the world heavyweight champion in his remarkable comeback fight against Deontay Wilder.

2020 is set to be a massive year for sports and these are just some of the events taking place around the world. Whether you get to watch them live or at home, they are sure to make for some fantastic viewing. So don’t forget to note these unmissable sporting events in 2020 in your diary!
