Lil’ Wayne was set to begin serving what is expected to be a year long sentence last week, but he is free on a technicality, find out what is what with Lil’ Wayne and his legal situations.

Cash Money rapper, Lil’ Wayne, was back in front of the New York Supreme Court on Tuesday February 9th stemming from his 2007 arrest on weapons charges following a Manhattan concert. Sentencing for the rapper has been postponed due to necessary dental surgery that he needs to have done. Apparently Wayne was unable to undergo the surgery at a prior date due to the fact that his dentist was out of the country performing charitable work. Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon did not argue the temporary reprieve, later stating that she had spoken with Wayne’s dentist. Although, New York Supreme Court Justice Charles Solomon said that it would not be put off any further. Wayne’s Defense Attorney, Stacey Richman, stated that “it is a medical situation that, like any of us, has to be addressed.” Lil’ Wayne will be back in front of the NY Supreme Court on March 2nd.
Lil’ Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, pleaded guilty back in October to the charge of attempted criminal possession of a handgun after he admitted that he had an illegally loaded .40 caliber handgun, which was found by police when his tour bus was stopped by police. He faces up to one year in jail under his plea bargain agreement and could serve eight months with good behavior.
The sentencing was supposed to come just one week after Lil’ Wayne released his latest album Rebirth, which dropped February 2nd, just days after his Grammy performance with Drake and Eminem. During its first week, Rebirth was the top-selling album on itunes, but number two on the overall Billboard charts in the United States with 176,000 copies sold. Rebirth is Wayne’s first album since selling over a million copies in his first week with The Carter III.
Wayne is also due in court at the end of March on separate charges in Arizona. The charges arise from an arrest back in January 2008 when authorities discovered marijuana, cocaine, and a handgun on his tour bus at a border checkpoint. The Yuma Sun is reporting that Yuma County Attorney Jon Smith is patiently waiting to move forward with his prosecution against the rapper. The lists of charges include possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving a weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities allegedly found four ounces of marijuana, over an ounce of cocaine, forty-one grams of ecstasy, and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. Lil’ Wayne has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
