Tyga has responded to reactions following his news music video. The rapper deleted the visual after indicating that he was genuinely perplexed and sorry following backlash from Mexican fans for the music video of his song “Ay Caramba.” The fans claimed he was promoting Mexican stereotypes and found it extremely upsetting. Tyga apologizes for Ay Caramba and amid the backlash.

The rapper spoke on a show with Power 106 Los Angeles and American podcaster Gil (who is one of the offended) .  He said he did not intend to hurt anyone with the video. Gil pointed out that the visual has been accused of depicting racist caricatures. The video begins with Tyga playing a character in a fat suit and eating guacamole and chips.

“I had no intention of offending anybody…I want to apologize to the Mexican community and my fans that are Mexican.”  He told Gil and the Los Angeles Lakers Program. Later in the show,  he revealed that not all of his Latin fans were upset. Some Latinos and Latinas might have also given him their seal of approval; the backlash mostly came from Mexican fans.

“I have a lot of Latin fans that are Puerto Rican, Dominican, that probably weren’t offended by this video. However, my  Mexican fans in L.A., there definitely was some that were offended,” the Tyga apology for Ay Caramba continued.

While Tyga deleted the visual, it could still be found under other accounts on YouTube.  See it below:

Critics on social media did not like the “Rack City” rapper’s justification. Someone on twitter by the username Brian Abdiel de Jesus wrote “Imagine Mexicans dressed up as Africans and did African songs and dances lmao mannnnn.”
Another user declared quite plainly “Apology not accepted”

While addressing the character who was the subject of controversy, the 32-year old rapper claimed “I was really just confused; I wasn’t making this video to be offensive; I was really making this video to be creative. The whole concept of the video was just different Latin things; it wasn’t like a Mexican-themed video,” He continued “The character is just me in a fat suit. The character is not even Mexican. This character was literally a reference from…Nutty Professor. There’s a scene from Nutty Professor where he has the same kind of sweat on.”

Gil responded that even with no racist intent, it still came off as disrespectful and that as a person who lived in L.A while growing up with the Mexican culture, it was hard to separate the two.

The video, which had garnered millions of views, has since been removed from YouTube by the Rapper.
