The Estate of Tupac Shakur Will Open Powamekka Café This Weekend

It’s been twenty years since we lost iconic rapper, Tupac Shakur. However, even after his tragic demise, his legacy still continues to live on. This weekend, April 7th – April 9th, The Estate of Tupac Shakur will unveil Powamekka Café, a restaurant that the rapper envisioned to construct before he died. The opening will take over New York’s Lower East Side restaurant Sweet Chick, giving guests a first look at Shakur’s dream establishment.

“Tupac’s creative vision was limitless. He was constantly working on ideas and plans that reached far beyond music or film. One of the things he was extremely passionate about was opening a restaurant. We are proud to bring Tupac’s Powamekka Café to life.” Tom Whalley, the trustee of The Estate of Tupac Shakur, expressed.

Powamekka Café will offer a menu full of items handpicked by the rapper, himself, along with his cousin’s, Jamala, infamous fried chicken–which he loved dearly. The main goal of the restaurant is to also offer a nostalgic experience for guests, setting the atmosphere with photos of Shakur hanging from wall to wall, along with a number of his very own poetry citings and music.

Powamekka Café’s first introduction was last year, in Fresno, California. The café did a pop-up, attracting so many fans around the city. Now, we are glad to know that his estate is bringing his vision to light in an even bigger way.

If you’d like to attend the grand reveal of Powamekka Café, see below for location details.
