France is a beautiful country known for its fine wine, fine art, and equally fine food. That’s not all there is to this nation, which has a fascinating history and stunning countryside.

It’s also quite a large European country, so you won’t be able to see or experience it all in one trip. Yet if you’re lucky enough to be able to visit every so often, here are three of the top cities in France you should think about adding to your itinerary.

Paris

What’s a trip to France if you don’t visit its iconic capital city? There are so many different attractions here that you’ll probably be able to go to Paris many times and still not get to see everything – but there are a couple of places you should have on your must-do list.

For those who like impressionist art, head for Musée d’Orsay; it has the world’s largest collection of impressionist masterpieces. Or course, you should also then go to the Louvre and have a look at the historic art from all over the globe.

Even if you’re in Paris for just a couple of days, take a river cruise down the Seine and you’ll get to see many sites. It’ll be a quick and easy way to have a look at the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysées, and other places you may want to check out.

Nice

The south of France is a popular holiday destination for many reasons, so you may wish to use Nice as your base for a short trip to the area. You may want to explore the coastal roads, so arranging for international car rental may the option for you because then you’ll have to freedom to explore where you want.

You may want to drive to the interesting town of Antibes, which isn’t too far from Nice itself. The 3,000 years of history here will keep you wandering the streets as you learn more about its background. There’s also Golfe Juan, which is where Napoleon landed to go to Cannes

You can also experience the glamour of modern-day Cannes, home to the international film festival – and, if glitz and glamour is your thing, then go down the coast in the opposite direction and visit the principality of Monaco.

Bordeaux

Think Bordeaux and you think wine! While that’s one of the items the city is known for, there are many other things to explore in the area. As well as beautiful art, there’s equally stunning countryside that you can lose yourself in.

To view it from the city itself, your best to head to Gothic St Michel church. The free-standing spire is the tallest in Bordeaux and offers outstanding views. The river also offers a great place to wander by, giving you a pretty place to walk.

You can’t leave Bordeaux without at least learning more about its most famous export. The Cité du Vin has three tasting rooms for visitors to find out more about the world’s wines – as well as those from its home country.
