This B.o.B Lawsuit For Unpaid Royalties Is A Mess!

This B.o.B lawsuit is one of many cases where managers have not looked out for their artists in the best way. Bobby Ray Simmons Jr. aka B.o.B faces a $3M lawsuit for unpaid royalties by his former management company. B.o.B. is allegedly in breach of his royalties contract with Round Hill Music and Artists Rights Management.

Billboard got hold of a legal document detailing B.o.B’s lawsuit. Apparently, a complaint was filed indicating that B.o.B committed a “willful and intentional breach” of his 2017 agreements. The complaint stated that he sold the rights to collect certain royalties he got from his sound recording copyrights. “In an intentional violation of the assignment agreement, defendants have prevented plaintiffs from collecting the royalties that plaintiffs are contractually entitled to collect,” the lawsuit indicated.

According to Music Times, Billboard’s documents on B.o.B’s lawsuit showed little to no details on what royalties the rapper has allegedly breached, so a third-party company inked an initial agreement with the rapper, which they later sold to Round Hill. According to the agreement, it gives them “all right, title and interest to collect certain royalties from the public performance of all sound recordings featuring Bobby Ray Simmons.” It also gives “a first-priority security interest in certain rights associated with the sound recording performance rights and revenues” to the company.

Hot New Hip-hop reports that B.o.B. agreed to “hand over certain royalties associated with public performances of his tunes” in 2017 per his managers. B.o.B’s lawsuit also mentions his touring company. It seems B.o.B’s managers were not looking out for his best interest because he told TMZ that his former manager entered into agreements without him knowing. “I have not seen the lawsuit but am aware my former manager had entered into agreements without my knowledge. I take my business seriously and look forward to getting to the truth of what happened”. B.o.B has 20 days to respond or else he will be faced with an expansive legal default.
