243 million Americans tune in to radio stations to listen to music every week, reports Time.com. Independent upcoming urban musicians are therefore always looking to get their music on the radio stations to have this audience listening to the art they express. Urban music has not only grown over the years but has also evolved with the changing culture thanks to the platforms currently available. The evolving urban music, with artists like Lupe Fiasco releasing new hit singles going mainstream, is greatly appreciated over the radio every day.

Urban Music On The Radio

Listening to urban music over the radio has proven to be the most effective way to get to fans all over. In all its formats including hip-hop, blues, soul, reggae and gospel music, it is being aired in 335 urban radio stations today. You are able to listen to your new blues or hip-hop hits while doing practically any activity just by having the most affordable media gadget; the radio. They come in different shortwave radio brands in the market giving you access to your favorite stations. Urban radio stations and their listeners are the reasons why artists are gaining credibility and fame along with the growth in culture.

Built Credibility Among Listeners

Singers like Avery Wilson who has now released his newest single “Callin”, Mustard with “Pure Water”, GoldLink’s “Joke Ting” and others are each day gaining fans on the radio. The popularity of music on the radio grows fast since not every artist’s music is aired. With the number of upcoming artists quickly skyrocketing each year, radio stations only play music that is of high quality for their listeners.

The chance to have music on the air comes rarely but when it does, it gives an artist a boost incomparable to any other. It has helped musicians like to stay on air due to their popularity among listeners worldwide. Radio provides all new artists a blend of exposure, curation and marketing to their audience for a good chance that traffic follows them online for more of their music.

Traffic to Mainstream Music

Before people are able to run to internet platforms like iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, Tubidy and others here you have to download any kind of content, they are driven by the radio. 93% of black-American listeners tune in to listen to urban radio stations weekly according to Forbes. They encompass a whole 13.5% of the millions that tune in to radio on a daily basis. The cycle does not end there since most people have personalized playlists on their gadgets.

This audience is bound to look for music that they like and spread the word for millions more to go online and download what is trending. This is the power of radio stations. It promotes the sales of upcoming artists and gives a leeway to value added in the urban culture. Trends begin for this reason and every day inspired millennials are coming up with creative forms or art.

Urban music has been through a great deal of events in the course of history to where it is. It was in the past  music that only black-Americans listened to but has gained popularity among all races because of the culture it depicts. From civil rights awareness movements to racial barrier protests, it has been there every step of the way showing the progress that has been made to this date. “I wear urban as a badge of honor” the words that RCA president of urban music Mike Pitts said, a proud promoter of upcoming good quality urban music. He today is an overseer of a rosters of G-Eazy, Khalid, Miguel and SZA.
