In our lifetime we are forced to make many decisions about many things. And the more alternatives you have, the more difficult the choice. Some decisions we make are the right ones and some are wrong. Most of them are influenced by society and what others think are the best ways to travel. Why do we search for the best alternative and still feel confused? It is our own natural instinct…the fear of failure, which shoves us into following the path of least resistance. No passion so efficiently robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear; a fear of being the only ones not living your dreams in this instance. Studies have shown that conformity has a powerful effect on us. Conformity is the basic fear of standing out on our own, so we tend to follow “the crowd” to avoid ridicule.

I want you to know that living your dreams is worth taking, is a hard and lonely one. Think of all the people that had the distinction of being the first to invent something or start a new trend. These brave souls had to follow a path of unfamiliarity. Some had to endure intense derision like Thomas Edison. Can you imagine how many times he failed and kept on trying? But what I call failure is not the falling down but the staying down. Can you imagine what criticism he had to endure before he actually succeeded in accomplishing his vision? Can you imagine the courage it took to even dream of bringing light to a dark world despite the fierce opposition? Patterning your life around other people’s opinions is nothing more than slavery. These same principles are still true to this day. Thomas Edison is considered to be one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding 1,093 US Patents. Wow!

The right decision is made when you choose the path least familiar to you. There is always going to be an easy way and a hard way. And in most cases, it is the hard way that will prosper you. The gate to failure is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate. But the gate to the good life is very narrow and the road that lead’s there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it. Let’s just look at an example that we all can relate to. Fact: Approximately 90% of the world’s wealth is held by 10% of the population. If you ask any person that has obtained considerable wealth I bet that none of them will tell you that it was easy, except maybe a lottery winner, but even they will tell you about how many moons they kept on failing and trying. Sometimes the hardest paths we take usually end in our intense joy and prosperity. Once we decide to embark on those paths we come to realize that the way is not all that hard and that we never walk alone. There is at least one that walks with us. The greatest mistake you can make in life is to continually fear you will make one. So be an individual. Think your own thoughts. Living your dreams and remember that happiness is a way of travel – not a destination.

“I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” – Christopher Reeves
