Our The Bad Guys Movie Review

The Bad Guys movie, a new action-comedy from DreamWorks Animation, is filled with romance, betrayal, action and humor, but first and foremost, it is kid-friendly! It’s adult enough that parents won’t be bored, but PG enough to keep the kids entertained with a surprising plot twist. The Bad Guys is a great movie for everyone to get a good laugh and remember the importance of friendship, new ones and day ones.

The Bad Guys “gang’ consists of five infamous friends that their whole city fears. The leader of The Bad Guys is dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell, The Best of Enemies), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron, GLOW), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson, Hot Tub Time Machine franchise), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos, In the Heights) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina, Crazy Rich Asians), aka “Webs.”

Every bad guy has someone trying to take them down and this move is no different. Police Chief Misty Luggins (Alex Borstein, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’) is hell-bent on bringing The Bad Guys down through exaggerated and hilarious lengths, even at her own expense. She’s introduced early in the movie after the Bad Guys successfully rob a bank, which led to a car chase with Chief Luggins leading the charge and her unit S.C.U.M (a funny play on S.W.A.T) backing her up.

Chief Luggin’s gets a taste of locking up The Bad Guys after their greatest heist attempt fails – stealing the Golden Dolphin at the city’s award ceremony. The Bad Guys’ attempted to steal the Golden Dolphin Award after the town’s foxy governor, Diane Foxington (Zazie Beetz, The Harder They Fall) publicly downplayed their bank robbery and called them “has-beens”.

Before the gang is taken away, Wolf makes Governor Foxington and the Golden Dolphin Award Recipient, Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade, Paddington 2), an arrogant yet adorable guinea pig, a deal to give The Bad Guys a second chance in exchange for them turning good – much to Chief Luggin’s dismay. After all, they’ve never had a chance to be more than just criminals.

While The Bad Guys have no intention of keeping their end of the bargain, a series of events in their rehabilitation process puts Wolf’s bad guy persona and friendship with his crew to the test. When a new villain emerges as The Bad Guys ‘try’ to turn over a new leaf, will Wolf persuade the rest of the gang to become The Good Guys or will they succumb to their old ways because they are so good at being bad? You will have to find out for yourself on Friday, April 22nd.
