Talent Takes a Backseat

And it’s a terrible reality that we live in. In a rap atmosphere that’s almost totally pushed by money, quality and talent has definitely taken a backseat. I’m a small part of the era where we still brushed our Timbs with sandpaper to keep ‘em clean, fresh. Nowadays, fresh is skinny jeans, big sneakers and backwards hats, cocked sideways a little bit. I’m not even mad at the style; but it’s different for some of these corny ass rappers that have fans. “Why do these guys have fans?” is exactly what I’m thinking!

To me, music is like a movie. You know what’s universally good, and you know what’s universally bad. You can see who has talent in a movie; you can hear who has talent on a record. You know who can act/you know who can rap, and who can’t!

To quote Lloyd Banks on one of his mixtapes, “Niggas got deals and shouldn’t even have air…”

I don’t wish death on nobody, but I really don’t know what happened to the game as far as talent is concerned. I may sound like a hater, a “Mustache Pete” if you will, but I’m not talking any bullshit. This just is what it is!

Atlanta enjoys Waka’s music. He’s got his own fan-base and the clubs rock for him. I would think that could be good in Atlanta. But for New York to feel that?? What the fuck happened!

Lil’ B. He can’t at all rap! But he’s making music somehow. He’s calling himself “a princess,” the “Pretty Little Bitch,” but this guy’s got fans… How! Please tell me how. What the fuck am I missing! Lyricism? Good music?? Which one? I need someone who knows better to fill me in here. I got a little chuckle the day he challenged Joe Budden, and that was because I really wasn’t sure if he was serious.

Lil’ Chuckee. Lil’ Twist. Whoooooooo is letting these dudes in the booth! Come on man. I understand it’s about the bread, but damn son. What’s these dudes’ talents? I feel like I’m justified in saying what I’m saying. After all, it is my opinion, but I can’t be the only one that feels this way.

Gucci Mane makes good melodies, he aint the best rapper, but he can rap at least. He’s just got a thick accent. Soulja Boy ain’t the best rapper either, but as far as his beats are concerned, he’s talented. Some of these other guys really shouldn’t have made it so close to a microphone.

The game has definitely changed, and it isn’t for the better. Too many wack dudes are at the forefront when people like Lupe Fiasco, B.O.B., take a nice, Rosa Parks backseat to all of this madness. Maybe I wouldn’t want to be totally involved with it all either.

I don’t know if the game will ever go back to where it was. And in general, the world is at a loss for talent, and reality. Nas said Hip-Hop ain’t dead. Wayne said Hip-Hop ain’t dead, but we are currently putting the Minwax on the coffin; and preparing it for its six feet descent.

Nowadays you don’t have to have talent to do anything. You don’t have to have talent to rap. I think, if you can’t spit; you shouldn’t attempt to! No yes-men should be in your ear telling you “That’s hot!” ‘cause that shit ain’t! If you can’t rap; you shouldn’t attempt to! Just make good music! But some of these guys can’t even do that; yet, they still have fans.

These guys have their audiences I guess. But what does that say about our fans, and the game? Pssshh…
