The days are numbered for this year’s NFL,in less than two months from now the Super Bowl will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The race to reach the final is being hotly contested. As each day passes by the fans and punters alike can’t seem to control their excitement.

Films based on football have been very well received by the fans and are watched over and over again as the final gets closer. But we have brought something to add to your excitement, films on sports betting. Whether or not you are an occasional gambler these movies will help you understand the world of sports betting in more detail.

A host of teams are being touted to win this year’s Super Bowl including Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Chargers, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys. The odds for the respective teams have been set at 10/1, 8/1, 16/1, and 20/1 by the bookies. Anything could happen between now and the final as the teams are fighting hard to be champions. Even the most seasoned punters could use some Super Bowl betting picks to maximize their chances of winning.

Casino

This Martin Scorsese directorial tries to look into the extent to which crime families’ had influence over casino business in the 70s. Like many other Scorsese films Casino also delves into the hidden and dangerous facet of American society.

The film is inspired by a book based on true events in the life of Frank ‘Lefty’ Rosenthal. Frank is a principled man and gives great attention to detail and is one of the sharpest minds among oddsmakers in the 70s. His talent attracted many prominent crime families who put some of the biggest casinos in his command.

But Ace’ actions pulled American gambling industry out of the jaws of organized crime. He established the first legal sportsbook in American history. Punters were no longer deviants, common people and even celebrities were engaging in the act.

Two for the Money

This is another story of a man, somewhat based on true events, who made it big in the sports betting industry based on his talent. The lead character is Brandon Lang who initially works in telemarketing.

His talent to precisely predict winner in a game is spotted by Walter Abrams and together they start offering services to punters. Unlike Ace Rothstein the protagonist in this film is a sports handicapper.

This film puts more light on the personal lives of persons; their emotions, mental state, etc. than it does on how the sports betting industry works. But it will definitely make all the punters hope that they find someone as talented as Brandon Lang.

The Color of Money (1986)

This movie was released before the internet was introduced. So you won’t be seeing multi-millionaire professional sports bettors, well dressed and sophisticated, and placing numerous bets on a daily basis. Instead the film portrays them as good for nothing deviants.

It looks into the psychology of punters and is a valuable lesson for those looking to understand how brain functions while gambling thus helping you make choices more thoughtfully.
