Issa Atlanta Bred Hip-Hop Artist – 21 Savage

The Atlanta music scene never seems to disappoint with bustin’ out Hip-Hop talent. And once again the empire city of the South has given birth to a hot gangsta star. His name is 21 Savage.

21 Savage is a street rapper with murder music that raps about the harsh reality of life in the hood. A father of three ( two boys and girl), Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, born October 22, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia has lived a young life of trouble, loss, and success.

Being a hustler and self sufficient individual, at 11 years old 21 Savage did what he had to do to make his money. Knocking on doors getting $2 to take out people’s trash out to save up and purchase sneakers, is just one example of the kind of drive, independence and determination this young man had. But working for sneakers was not it.

Trials and tribulations began as early as middle school for 21 Savage. Getting caught with a gun at school had him expelled and further developed a streak of displacement from school to school. In due time Savage landed himself in juvenile hall through high school. Nonetheless, street life called 21 Savage and he was there to answer. Most people will remember their 21st birthday as their legal drinking age or a new exciting chapter in life, yet 21 Savage remembers his as the night he was shot six times, including once in his neck. Nearly dying from blood loss and enduring multiple surgeries, he kept at his street lifestyle. Lingering nerve damage and pain killer medication usage doesn’t stop 21’s love for the streets or the rep he has for it.

The murder of his best friend in 2013 along with the realities of his own life helped 21 Savage turn to rap music. Toying with rap in the past but never really making an effort to release material, Savages first single, “Picky” produced by Dj Plugg made its debut on November 12 2014.

With only a mac computer and a mic, Savage recorded his first mixtape, The Slaughter Tape, which he released in May 2015. “Picky” was a featured single on the mixtape, along with other popular tracks like “Skrrt Skrrt”, “Gang”, and “Slaughter Your Daughter”. The same year a string of music videos were released including the aforementioned “Skrrt Skrrt” and “Million Dollar Liq”, all prepping us for his collaborative EP, “Free Guwop” with Sonny digital (A tribute to influencing rapper of 21’s, Gucci Mane). Keeping up with the momentum 21 Savage releases his second mixtape, Slaughter King in December 2015.

The following year, in 2016, 21 Savage landed the coveted XXL freshman cover alongside his peers Anderson .Paak, Kodak Black and Desiigner, just to name a few. He’s found all this success up to this point as an independent artist.

Shortly after the XXL cover, 21 savage and Atlanta based producer, Metro Boomin’ joined forces to unleash the EP, Savage Mode. The EP became his highest effort on the Billboard 200 charts, peaking at number 44. On top of that success 21 Savage accomplished what every hungry artist desires, his first platinum record for the track, “X” ft Future, off of the Savage Mode EP.

Guest features on bangerz like “Sneakin” with Drake, on Meek Mill’s DC4 mixtape, and Mike Will Made It’s “Gucci On My”, prove bonafide skills and rap game prowess.

Not only finding success with platinum records and super star collaborations, 21 Savage has also garnered success in fashion as well, launching a deal with Jimmy Jazz and Timbaland boots to produce his version of the six inch denim construction boot. With a purchase of the six inch Timbs in Atlanta, customers received a copy of Savage Mode for free.

In more recent news, 21 Savage announced his record deal with Epic records in January 2017. Despite his past, where he came from and what he has seen and experienced, 21 Savage wishes to remain humble and grateful for how far he has come . The ifá (a West African religion) practicing rapper also bares a dagger on his forehead to show respect to his deceased brother Tay Man. Exposing more of the heart that this “no heart” rapper possesses.

21 Savage is also credited in some circles for popularizing the term “issa”, which is a short form for the term “It’s A”.
