R&B star Sammie has released a statement calling for freedom from undue disturbance after his mother was charged with second degree murder. 56-year-old Angila Baxter, the “Too Long” singer’s mother, was detained on Thursday (Jan 19) in Florida for the shooting homicide of a 27-year-old woman which took place on January 12, according to reports. On the date in question, the Orange County Sherriff’s Office in Orlando claims Baxter reportedly fired shots at several vehicles that drove past her.
Later it was disclosed that Baxter said she thought she was being followed by various persons, which triggered her to open fire hit-or-miss at a number of cars and individuals near by. It was confirmed in an autopsy report that one of Sammie’s mother’s bullets wound up hitting Nekaybaw Collier. About 7:00 p.m. local time, Collier was found irresponsive in her vehicle. Shortly thereafter, at a nearby hospital Collier was pronounced dead. The singer’s mom has since been charged with second-degree murder with a firearm.
At first, it was unknown Angila Baxter was the mother of a famous musician, until Sammie took it upon himself to issue a statement via Instagram that addressed the unfortunate passing of the victim due to her actions. The “Face to Face” singer posted: “In consideration of the recent news, I would first like to express my most sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Collier.” He went on about the murder charge: “I understand the severity of the allegations, but I do not have any additional information. At this time, I respectfully request privacy for not only my family, but the family of Mrs. Collier.” On the Instagram post, Sammie disabled commenting as well to ensure his request was honored.
Baxter was tracked down by authorities after two other persons whose vehicles had been hit with bullets reported the shooting. One witness reported a woman in a red SUV rode up aside her vehicle, yelled curse words at her and opened fire on her car. The other witness flagged police down on the day of the shooting and informed them a woman in a red SUV stopped her truck near an intersection and randomly opened fire on him and others. While being interrogated by police, Sammie‘s mother said she couldn’t recall the day of the shooting, however, she did remember unloading her gun in the air to deter the individuals she thought were following her.
