The Rise of Blac Youngsta – All Hail to The Drug Lord

Blac Youngsta also known as Samuel “Sammie” Benson was raised on McMillian Street in South Memphis, which is known for its notorious crime. So, like many young Black men Blac Youngsta became a product of his environment and fell victim to the alluring appeal of fast money and gang culture. Even though he is known for his Gangsta Richie Rich persona always flashing money and being extravagant he is no stranger to hard work. Having to grow up fast Blac began working at the age of 7 at a local corner store. After getting caught stealing food for his family and getting fired he got introduced to the dope game and quickly fell in love with the lavish lifestyle and big money, but after being locked up several times on different charges he decided it was time for a change and went all in bringing his hidden rap talent to life.

Diving head first in the rap game he quickly made his stamp in the Memphis Hip-Hop scene releasing his debut project, Fast Bricks.  Without hesitation he hit the streets back to back with Fast Brick 2.  Right around that time tragedy hit close to home and Blac lost his younger brother to gun violence, that put Blac in a dark place as he mourned the death of his brother. While recovering from being shot himself in a drive by Blac decided to bounce back from his brother’s death and his own tragedy, and in 2014 dropped the hit single “Heavy” off his third mixtape Fast Bricks 3, landing him the notoriety he had been grinding for. Praying Yo Gotti would notice him Blac being the slick Youngsta that he is, maneuvered his way on set of a Yo Gotti music video. His unique style and energy stood out amongst the crowd and his prayers were answered. Immediately after the video dropped he landed a meeting with the indie record label CMG, and later with Yo Gotti himself.

In 2015 after touring with his big homie Yo Gotti, he inked a deal with CMG, and that’s when the world was officially introduced to Blac Youngsta. “His hustle and drive reminds me of myself, so I’d thought be a perfect fit for CMG”, Yo Gotti said in a past interview. And the charismatic trap lyricist has not let us down. He has since been blowing up the mixtape circuit releasing mixtapes: I Swear To God, Young and Reckless, and Fuck Everybody, which features hard hitting trap beats produced by Zaytoven, Cassius Jay, and London on Da Track to name a few.

Blac may have generated a buzz from his public beef with fellow Memphis native Young Dolph, and his over the top social media stunting, but he has backed it up with entertaining music giving us hits like “Drug Lord”, which showcases his relentless hustle, and tracks that leave you thinking like “One Bedroom House”, where he raps about sleeping on the floor and taking care of his brothers.

You may not be able to throw him in the Kendrick Lamar category, but when it comes to the Trap Music Legends he is on his way to being placed in that hall of fame. Always leaving you entertained, wanting more and motivating you to hustle harder, he has all the necessary ingredients to give us authentic Hood Classics.

Youngsta may seem like you’re round the way D-Boy but the way he makes you feel his music, he has more to offer.  One thing you cannot deny is his endless grind and overwhelming charisma.  That alone has established him as one of the most talented and entertaining new artists coming out of the Dirty South.
