On Sunday January 17, the folks at Parlé Magazine put together a poetry fundraiser for the people in Haiti who were affected by the tragic earthquake just 5 days earlier. Parlé Magazine joined forces with the Haitian Memorial Foundation, Inc., an organization based in New York, with a mission of empowering Haiti and its descendants through art and monuments. Due to this tragedy the Haitian Memorial Foundation’s current focus is to send immediate relief to Haiti with a mission to provide medical help, as well as structural and building help. All the donations received, monetary, clothing and food were all donated to the Haitian Memorial Foundation. The event was hosted by Haitian American poet, Carvens Lissaint and featured several poets from diverse backgrounds. The event raised several hundred dollars as well as many bags of clothes, food and other goods.
