Erotic author N’Tyse is the true definition of self-made, she self published her first novel, My Secrets, Your Lies which was a big success with fans and critics alike and now she hopes to duplicate her success with her upcoming novels, Cougar Suites and Twisted Pleasures. I had the chance to sit down with N’Tyse and talk shop as we discussed her career and plans for the future as a major literary figure for the modern times.
Parlé Magazine:  Your first book, My Secrets Your Lies was successful but can you tell us why you chose to self-publish? Can you share with us some of the experiences with self-publishing?
N’Tyse: Back in 2007, I didn’t know which direction I wanted to go as far as taking my work to an agent or directly to a publisher.  I started talking with other authors for ideas and a good friend of mine told me to try taking it to a publisher or self-publishing.  At the time, I took my work to two companies: one I didn’t  hear back from and the other said that they weren’t interested.  I was tired of playing the waiting game so went on the internet to research self-publishing, I read tons of books, and I went to some of my friends for advice on it. After awhile, I took a shot at self-publishing which was risky. I ran into a few challenges with distribution but I was lucky to be able to overcome them.
Parlé:  Are you currently working on anything new?
N’Tyse: I’m working on Cougar Suites, which is a mainstream project. I hope to release it sometime next year. It’s a co-author project so I’m working with another author by the name of Lesley Hal on Cougar Suites, but I’m also working on my own book called Twisted Pleasures, that I’m excited about. Cougar Suites, all I can say is that it’s about women who get what they want from the boardroom to the bedroom. Twisted Pleasures is sort of self-explanatory, without giving too much away, everything is not what it seems in this one. For example a woman has a long crush on her best friend’s boyfriend who later becomes the friend’s husband and when the opportunity presents itself the woman takes advantage of it.
Parlé:  Does the eroticism play a vital role in your stories?
N’Tyse: A lot of the sex scenes are there to move the plot forward. They allow the reader to share the fantasy with the characters at the moment.  It’s more romantic and less gratuitous.  It gives your mind a chance to get more into the storyline and allows you to appreciate the work more. Sex is a part of everyone’s life and I try to make it as beautiful as possible with my stories.
Parlé:  How have the fans responded to you so far?
N’Tyse:  The success from my first book has been awesome, it was so good I was surprised. I realized that this is something I wanted to do.  When I started going to my events and hearing what my readers had to say, I was ecstatic. I’ve written a book that so many people have taken to heart. I knew when I saw the outcome that this would be my calling.
Parlé:  When you’re not busy writing, what do you do to relax?
N’Tyse:   I try to read. I hardly watch T.V., I’m not a T.V. person at all. So when I’m in the mood to relax I curl up with a nice book.
Parlé:  What kind of books do you read?
N’Tyse:  I read erotica, self-help and a little bit of everything in between.
Parlé:   What author inspired you to pursue a career as an author?
N’Tyse:  I can’t say that another author inspired me to write, but I do  have some  really cool mentors  that helped me out a lot. I look up to Zane and so many authors I look up to, I also have a group that helps me process my work. We encourage each other.
Parlé:  Where can people go to buy your books?
N’Tyse:  My books are available online, iphone, kindle, they can go to my website, www.ntyse.com or www.amazon.com. They can also go to their local Borders or Barnes & Noble, it’s available nationwide.
Parlé:   Do you have any inspiring words for young writers and fans?
N’Tyse:  Time waits for no one is my favorite quote.  I also wanna say just do it.
For updates on N’Tyse, I encourage our readers to check her out at www.ntyse.com, https://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/author.ntyse, https://www.myspace.com/ntyse and  https://twitter.com/ntyse.

As the true definition of self-made, urban and erotica author N’Tyse self-published her first novel, My Secrets, Your Lies, which was a big success with fans and critics alike. Now she hopes to duplicate her success with her upcoming novels, Cougar Suites and Twisted Seduction. I had the chance to sit down with her for a N’Tyse author interview and talk shop as we discussed her career and plans for the future as a major literary figure for modern times.

Parlé Magazine:  Your first book, My Secrets, Your Lies was successful but can you tell us why you chose to self-publish? Can you share in this N’Tyse author interview some of your experiences with self-publishing?

N’Tyse: When I finished writing that book, I honestly didn’t know what the next step was or which direction I should go. Self-publishing was an afterthought. I reached out to so many authors and publicists, Miasha, Torrian Ferguson (my big brother mentor), Vincent Alexandria, and Dawn Michelle with Dream Relations, just to name a few. I wanted to weigh my options and learn as much as I could about the literary process and the industry. After I did my homework, I decided to take my book on a trial run. I invested in myself, negotiated my own printing deals, managed the distribution, and marketing, and kept one hundred percent of the profits. Self-publishing also allowed me creative control over my product.

Parlé:  Does eroticism play a vital role in erotica author N’Tyse’s novels?

N’Tyse: Yes. I use sex scenes to ignite the passion between my characters, to move the plot forward, and most of all to allow my readers a chance to experience different fantasies. I want them to feel enticed.

Parlé:  How have the fans responded to you so far?

N’Tyse:  The reception has been wonderful from both my urban and erotica works. It always makes me feel extra special when a fan goes as far as writing me on Facebook just to tell me how much they’ve enjoyed my works.

Parlé:  So when you’re not busy writing, what do you do to relax?

N’Tyse: Wow! That’s a word that I don’t get to use that often. I’m not much of a T.V. person so I’ll more than likely be found curled up with a book and glass of wine. I also treat myself to manicures and spa pedicures, but again, Van (nail lady) will tell you that I always have a book in my hand.

Parlé:  What kind of books do you read?

N’Tyse:  I read everything but erotica and urban fiction are my favorite. I’ve also been meditating more nowadays so I’ll occasionally refer back to my self-help or empowerment books.

Parlé: What authors inspired you?

N’Tyse: Zane, Terry McMillan, E. Lynn, and of course E.J.D. They were the pioneers for African American fiction and they were all I knew. I then discovered that there were urban books in the market. My first urban book was The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. After I read that … I grew a fetish for urban-laced novels.

Parlé: For this N’Tyse author interview, give us the names of all your books and anthologies you’ve been featured in.

Cougar Suites Project

N’Tyse: My Secrets Your Lies, Stud Princess Notorious Vendettas, Caramel Latte (Missionary No More PP2), Sinful Essence (Dialing For Pain), Illicit Fantasy (Bedtime Stories), and I wrote the intro for Between The Sheets.

Parlé: Are you currently working on anything new?

N’Tyse: Of course. I just finished the first installment of my Cougar Suites series project. Book one is a collabo with Lesley E. Hal and will be releasing in the spring of 2011 under Anexander Books. This book is fire! Waiting to Exhale meets Sex In The City. I’ve also just finished my fourth novel, Twisted Seduction, which I’m told is slated to release April 2012. I’m currently working on my fifth novel as well as some short fiction and scriptwriting.

Parlé:  Where can people go to buy erotica author N’Tyse novels, such as future installments of your Cougar Suites project?

N’Tyse: Wherever books are sold. I do believe in supporting African American bookstores so please check their inventory first. They can find all of my novels in Borders, Barnes & Noble, and online. For the iPhone and Kindle lovers out there, it’s available for download. If readers would like an autographed copy, email me at [email protected] or go to my website www.ntyse.com. After you’ve been enticed, please go to www.amazon.com and post your review.

N’Tyse: Time waits for no one so just do it! And no one will believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself.

Adrian "A.D." Dubard

Born in Washington DC, Adrian was placed in the care of his maternal grandparents after his mother died when he was a baby. For the most part of his life, Adrian’s biological father was absent from his life. Growing up with a house full of cousins, aunts and uncles, Adrian began his love of writing to document his surroundings. Attending a private school for 9 ½ years, it was there that many influential teachers help strengthen his love of writing via English and creative writing classes. Even though, Adrian loved to write he was reserved about what he wrote about. Leaving DC at the age of 7, Adrian and his family moved to Temple Hills, Maryland in Prince George’s not too far from where he had lived previously. Luckily, Adrian had taken part in many youth outreach programs as a youth that allowed him to travel and see the country, many kids he knew around his own age hadn’t even left the city. These experiences opened his eyes to other cultures and ways of living. As a teenager, Adrian had many friends who passed away before their time but he promised to keep writing to honor their memory. Other than writing, Adrian has helped various charities rise by going on public speaking tours. Some of these charities include The Safe Haven Project and The Journey of Hope. He has contributed to several book projects and currently resides in Queens, NY. Read more articles by Adrian.
