Music: The Saga of Life
By George “Fable” Robinson
Have you ever thought about the tear jerking moments you get when you’re watching a sad movie or the suspense building in your heart when you’re at the climactic point in a thriller or action movie? I have, and I noticed that without certain factors adding to that moment, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as good. For me and for most it’s the music that sets the tone. It invokes a certain emotion or feeling to help us connect with what’s happening in the story. I believe this is the same thing when it comes to our own stories their soundtracks.
Take for example your last heart break; didn’t you cry more after listening to Broken hearted by Brandy? Or even when you realized you were crushing on that one person who you’ve never met but see everywhere, didn’t Alicia keys capture that in her 2003 hit You Don’t know My Name? Music is full of life and emotion and helps us relate closely to not only the artist who created it but to ourselves and our situations. Without it our lives would be a vague picture not capable of fully captivating life’s lessons.  Even when it has nothing to do with love the right song can set the mood for anything.  Don’t believe me, listen to  Blame It On the Alcohol  by Jamie Foxx and tell me that you don’t start swaying with the beat and feel a bit more lose each time the base thumps.
Some of the most important moments in our lives are commemorated with music. From graduations to funerals and it all leads me to wonder what we would do without it.  How would we really be able to release and understand those thoughts that don’t make sense in our heads? In my opinion everyday life and music have and always will go hand in hand. Each moment has a melody, and every trial has a beat and finding it makes it all one hell of a song to live by.  Still not convinced about how much music is a part of our everyday lives? Turn to a video channel and wait for one of your favorite songs to play and as soon as it does hit mute and sit and after it finishes let me know if feel the same way. (LOL)
