Loud, the fifth album from Barbadian native Rihanna exchanges the dark undertones of Rated R for a pop revolution that is lively and interesting in its presentation of how Rihanna has evolved as a singer. Opening with the attention grabbing “S&M,” a song slated to be a future single, Rihanna, enchants the listener with a descriptive about her pleasure and elation of the practice. The fresh sounding, “What’s My Name?” features Drake and is Rihanna’s return to her “SOS” and “Pon De Replay” days.
“Cheers (Drink to That)” hums along as an upbeat toast to liquor and partying. It is different, yet unforgettable in its riff exhibition and reggae-emo radiance. The current single “Only Girl,” is a revisit to the sassy bangers that have made Rihanna scorch on the charts, while “California King Bed,” takes Loud down a notch with its stripped qualities. “Raining Men,” a duet with Nicki Minaj, finds its way towards the finale of Loud and somehow manages to be forgotten after first listen.
Loud’s closers are “Skin,” and “Love the Way You Lie Part II.”  The former creates a risqué atmosphere around Rihanna and fits her feisty style, whereas “Love the Way You Lie Part II,” blazes and simmers as a burning end to Loud. Loud is a combination of mischievous energy from Rihanna and promiscuous lyricism that at first glance is easily comparable to that of previous projects, but showcases a more mature sounding Rihanna.
