Lorton Legends by Eyone Williams is not your typical story of life behind bars; this is not that book at all. This books takes it a step further besides telling the obvious  why a person ends up behind bars, Author Eyone Williams explains the how’s and all of those grey areas in between which made for a smooth read.
Lorton Legends takes place at Lorton Correctional Facility in Washington, DC and this place is one of the most dangerous prisons in US history. Lorton Legends tells a story about what happens if you break the law but unlike other prison books this book told stories within stories.
Ronald Mays, a 17 year old aspiring boxer almost on his way but his dreams of making it to the big leagues is cut short when he was sent to prison. Throughout the pages reader will admire Ronald because he is a stand-up guy and not one for going with doing the wrong thing he is constantly tested and always seems to come out somewhat victorious.
Lorton Legends is Ronald’s coming of age story. Readers will read about the violence, disloyalty, dishonesty, racism and corruption and so much more. Author Eyone Williams places his readers in a front row seat to a movie that takes you back in time and kept you mesmerized with the action packed read. His storyline was not only realistic but unique because he tackled real issues that prisoners deal with from wanting better nutrition for inmates, respect of religious beliefs and just some equality.
Lorton Legends told a story that wasn’t just confined to the concrete walls of the prison but on the outside as well. When there was drama on the streets there was a storyline that the author was able to cleverly tie in to make relevant and keep you engrossed page by page.
As a first time reader of Eyone Williams, I quickly became a fan of his writing style that was more than just words on paper but the relevant messages that were sprinkled throughout the 300+ pages.
Fans of urban literature will definitely be engaged by Lorton Legends as I was and eagerly look forward to reading more literary works from this author.
