Kobe Bryant: Honoring and Remembering the Man He Really Was

Why Kobe Bryant Was Not Only a Great Player and #GirlDad But an Overall Great Man

Just a few short days ago, the world lost a legend. Basketball star Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash.

There were seven others on board the morning of Sunday, January 26th. Sadly, everyone on the helicopter perished in the crash. It was reported that Kobe was on his way to a special game that Gianna was going to play in, along with two of her teammates.

Now, almost every single news report spoke on a ton of great things about Kobe’s career and family but, somehow, they just had to keep bringing up the rape case he was involved in back in 2003. If you don’t know, Kobe was accused and arrested for his alleged connection to a sexual assault complaint filed by a 19-year-old Colorado hotel employee. He later denied her claims and assured that there were relations but under consensual circumstances.

However, at a time like this, why is that constantly being brought up? As if his wife and family aren’t mourning enough, people want to talk badly about him. What about all of the good that he’s done?

Since that situation happened, Kobe has walked an incredible path! Joining the NBA at only 18 years old and straight out of high school, he was the youngest player in NBA history back in 1996. Let’s celebrate his many accomplishments instead of talking about his past constantly, shall we?

Of those many accomplishments were his marriage and his four beautiful children. Kobe married his wife, Vanessa, in 2001. Their first daughter, Natalia Diamante was born shortly after in 2003. She was followed by Gianna Maria-Onore (2006), Bianka Bella (2016) and recently-born baby girl, Capri Kobe (2019). I truly believe that of all the things Kobe achieved in his life, his family was his greatest achievement.

His tragic passing comes just shy of a year of late rapper Nipsey Hussle’s passing in Los Angeles as well. The world, and more importantly, Los Angeles, lost two great men. To the City of Angels, we’re all still grieving with you, but this just makes it that much harder.

Let’s not just honor the memory of Kobe and his daughter, but the other seven victims as well.

While the world mourns the loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, let’s not forget the others who died with them as well. Although they may have not lived their lives as publicly as the Bryant family, they still have families mourning them too. If you would like to help the other families affected by this tragedy, please go to www.MambaOnThree.org to donate.

Vanessa Bryant posted a loving tribute to her husband and daughter on the Wednesday after everyone passed away. She also asked that you respect their privacy as well as the privacy of the other families while they navigate their new reality.

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon. I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality. To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org. To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

Starting her writing journey in 2014, Marina was introduced to the literary world by two names: Divine Six and Marina J.  With two very creative and unique writing styles, she became a fast known name in the industry. After taking a two-year hiatus from 2016-2018, Marina came back harder than ever with her book, The Devil Wears Dog Tags, which was based on a true story. Chronicled from her days as a military wife, Marina J bore her soul.  In 2019, with 18 books to her name to date, Marina opened her first business, Trap House Books, as an avenue to sell her books as well as other authors’ books. In the latter part of 2019, she opened another business, The Trap House Signature: Chicago, an online retail store.  Learning to create is the best thing about writing books and starting businesses. You never know what you’ll learn. Both of Marina’s businesses are co-owned by her six children. Her daughters are co-owners to the book store and her sons are co-owners to the retail store.  Hoping to expand her brand as a storyteller and potential game-changer, Marina has now delved into Journalism/Media. Along with being an author and entrepreneur, she currently serves as an intern for Parlé Magazine. “I’m teaching my children that they can do anything, by turning a dream into a legacy...” - Marina J
