Hip-Hop 50th anniversary is still being celebrated as many people honor what hip-hop has brought to them.

From Biggie to Tupac, to even before they existed Hip-Hop has been the music that has kept the community afloat. That has gave cultural a whole new meaning.

Hip-hop is more than just music to most but it is the representation of where we come from, what we have gone through and the life that we continue to push towards.

Hip-Hop was first established in the 1970s in New York when block parties started to become a tradition.

DJ Kool Herc is considered the man that first created hip-hop when he created the Back to School Jam in 1973.

By the mid-80s hip-hop became alive with artists such as Run DMC, The Sugarhill Gang, Salt N Pepa, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, De La Soul, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Too Short and so many others.

Hip-hop allowed for many artists to use their unique sound to develop music for the community and encourage the black community the power that we STILL have.

As hip-hop began to grow in the community, MC Sha-Rock was considered the first female hip-hop artists which then created the path for Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, Lil Kim, Eve and many others.

In the recent Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop, it discloses the women of hip-hop who have encouraged and made room for today’s artists to find their voice and use it.

There have been many people who have created a path for hip-hop to exist which is why hip-hop will never die. We will continue to honor the legends who have created the path for the newer artists such as Saweetie, Latto, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Yo Gotti, Glorilla, Lola Brooks and many more.
