If you were hoping for the franchise to be taken off life support – think again. The Final Destination series has a flair for showing signs of life every now and then.
In this, the fifth installment, another group of young adults try to escape the slaughtery perils of Death only to realize the “your number is up when it’s up” cliché is more accurate than once assumed. Weaving a kind of pre-Final Destination 1 plotline into the climax, the pacing was a welcoming change from previous pieces in the series. The actors, whose names shall remain nameless except those who study horror film or any agents out there looking for fresh talent, do a decent job of flushing out the script. The deaths carry a thrillingly inventive cascade that were lacking in the prior two works such as a bridge moment that creates an insatiable desire in the viewer to take street routes and a gym scene that has be seen to be believed.
The film opens the door for more Final Destination trains to pull into the New Line Cinema station by providing the group an opportunity to beat Death at its own game. Along with a package of Sno-Caps and an ice cream float (at select movie theaters), Final Destination 5 in 3D was pretty entertaining.
