DC Young Fly Is A Media Polymath Using Every Platform To His Benefit

The internet is an excellent tool for anybody with basic skills. If you have a desire for a better life, a plan, and are also looking for entertainment, you’ll get DC Young Fly. He is an urban internet star who is using the power of old and new media to connect the world with his comedy, acting, and music.

Born John Whitfield, Fly is from the Westside of Atlanta, Georgia. He is known for his Instagram roast sessions that include his catchphrase “Bring Dat Ass Here”, and end with “Fawk [Fuck] you mean.” Let us not forget him starring in MTV’s Wild N’ Out, VH1’s Hip Hop Squares, and Will Packer’s Almost Christmas. He is also the funny guy with the tattoo “DC (which stand for Da Crew)” in between his eyebrows.

Fly had humble beginnings like a lot of urban youth. It was when his environment got to him that lead him to robbing and crack dealing, as well as the death of a brother which made him get a face tat as a tribute. Then a stabbing incident made him want to find a different avenue out of his situation. With persuasive words from a friend he ended up on the social network Vine, and since then he has been delivering laughs all throughout the World Wide Web.

When Instagram introduced videos to its platform Young Fly knew it was better for him to move his content from vine to Instagram. Not willing to go to jail to be viral he created his famous roast sessions which his targets include celebrities, rappers, and insta-stars. The bold even clap back to the roasting like Kevin Durant, Michael Blackson, and Kevin Hart. The roasting is usually done out of fun and not malice.

Being an appreciator of live performances DC Young Fly has been doing stand up since 2014. He tours the country as a headliner or with his podcast crew named The 85 South Show. The podcast is a comedy collective of Karlous Miller, DC Young Fly, Chico Bean, and Clayton English. The 85 South Show is a fusion between improv, stand up and roasting. You can catch the show every Friday on the 85 South Show Youtube channel or in-person.

DC Young Fly is also a TV fan favorite. He holds a television deal with Viacom. He is mainly known for his role on Wild N’ Out and being the host of TRL (Total Request Live). In February he co-hosted the 2019 BET Social Awards with fellow entertainer Jess Hilarious, and they both also starred in FOX’s comedy series Rel. He was given an acting part in BET’s The New Edition Story.

Although comedy comes naturally for Young Fly his passion is acting. With his comedy getting funnier and his popularity booming he was able to land a minor role in the movie Almost Christmas which he played Eric. The movie was theatrically released on November 11, 2016. He also starred as himself in the movie #DigitalLivesMatter, a movie about cyber abuse. He will be starring in MTV’s How High 2 with Lil Yachty and Master P’s I Got The Hook Up 2.

That is not all about Fly, he also does music. He has a total of 9 music projects out currently, and they’re available to stream on music services. His most recent release was his 2019 Trap Soul. His musical background dates back to when he was a youth singing in the church choir. He got a glimpse of the life of a musician when he was the opening act for Chris Brown’s Party Tour, but it was more for Fly’s comedy than his music.

DC Young Fly is using the digital sphere to be a stand out as an entertainer. He is generating laughs through different mediums: comedy, acting, and music. He is still continuing to build his following and perfect his craft. Be on the lookout for this young entertainer on the rise.
