Civil Jury Finds Bill Cosby Guilty of Sexually Abusing Teenager In 1975

A civil jury finds Bill Cosby guilty of sexually abusing a 16-year-old teenager in 1975 at the Playboy mansion on Tuesday, June 21st. The Los Angeles County jury ruled in favor of Judy Huth, who is now 64, and awarded her $500,000.

According to the Associated Press, “Huth said the fact that jurors believed her story meant more than the sum of money or the fact that she didn’t win punitive damages. “It’s been torture,” Huth said of the seven-year legal fight. ‘To be ripped apart, you know, thrown under the bus and backed over. This, to me, is such a big victory…’ The Los Angeles jury believed that Cosby intentionally caused harmful sexual contact with Huth, that he reasonably believed she was under 18, and that his conduct was driven by unnatural or abnormal sexual interest in a minor.

Although Cosby did not attend the trial or testify in person, the court played short clips from 2015, in which he denied any sexual contact with Huth. He continues to deny the allegation through his attorney and publicist.

Social media had mixed reactions to the news. Some people believe it’s good he’s being held accountable. Some blame the parents. Others are wondering how a situation that took place so long ago can even stand up in court.
