Chance The Rapper Donates To Public Schools, Gives Back In A Major Way

Chance the Rapper is certainly putting his money where his mouth is. The young Grammy award-winner shared some pretty big news at his press conference at Wescott Elementary School in Chicago on Monday. Chance The Rapper donates $1 million dollars to Chicago public schools. Chano says the money will come from ticket sales from his upcoming tour and will go to CPS’ fundraising foundation.

“Gov. Rauner can use his executive power to help get Chicago’s children the resources they need to fulfill their God-given right to learn,” Chance said. “Gov. Rauner still won’t commit to give Chicago’s kids a chance without caveats or ultimatums. Gov. Rauner, do your job.”

The Chicago rapper will also be donating $10,000 to a number of different public schools in the city for every $100,000 he raises for his non-profit organization SocialWorks. This news comes only hours after Gov. Bruce Rauner provided two options to provide $215 million to help Chicago Public Schools.

“Gov. Rauner broke his promise to Chicago children a few months ago as a result of an admitted emotional reaction,” Chance said. “Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positioning.”

“This isn’t about politics, this isn’t about posturing,” he continued. “This is about taking care of the kids. Everybody and their momma knows about what’s going on in Chicago, it’s constantly talked about. But we’re about to enhance the conversation.”
