He’s more than just the man behind the microphone and on the front pages of the latest tabloid. He’s a husband, a father, an icon, a warrior. He’s someone with a story to tell and a voice that he refuses to ever let go unheard. He’s Bobby Brown, and this is the Bobby Brown story.

If you grew up in the late seventies and early-to-mid eighties, or even nineties, the name Bobby Brown rung many bells in your household. Whether you first saw him prancing through the streets, spitting sweet melodies to his “Candy Girl,” or taking matters into his own hands by proving his manhood on “My Prerogative,” the R&B/Pop playboy’s talent spoke for itself.

Now, he’s doing all of the speaking himself, and he definitely has a lot to say. Following the uber success of BET’s The New Edition Story (2017)–which displayed Brown’s rise to stardom with the popular boy group–the 49-year-old has joined with the network to bring forth his very own biopic film, titled The Bobby Brown Story.

Directed by Spike Lee protege and NYU Grad Kiel Adrian Scott, the forthcoming two-part miniseries will pick up where The New Edition Story left off, chronicling Brown’s tumultuous departure from New Edition, entrance into his solo career, the controversy that came with it, and all of the high and low points in between.

Reportedly, viewers will also learn more about his affair with Janet Jackson, marriage to the late legendary songstress, Whitney Houston, and relationship with their daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who also passed away in 2015, which was only three years after the tragic demise of her mother. The then-22-year-old was ironically found in a bathtub and later died from lobar pneumonia after being in a coma for six months.

With millions of records sold, chart-topping hits, and Blockbusters, it’s clearly seen Bobby Brown has certainly encountered a great deal of fame and fortune, but he’s also endured a lot of trouble and pain. However, Brown has since risen above and is turning his trials into triumphs and tribulations into testimonies. He found redemption at the end of the rainbow, and this film with take you along… every little step of the way.

“Spanning thirty years of Brown’s life, the new project follows his story from the hard streets of Roxbury, where he turned to a life of drug dealing before being given the chance to prove himself as a solo artist,” Hollywood news blog Deadline described when exclusively speaking on the production last year.

Written by Abdul Williams and executive produced by Jesse Collins, The Bobby Brown Story will star flourishing actor and comedian Woody McClain, along with Tyler Marcel Williams, reprising their roles as young and present-day Bobby Brown, as will Sandi McCree as Brown’s mother, Carole Brown, Tank as Jheryl Busby, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant, and Luke James as Johnny Gill.

Other key cast members include: Rosewood’s Gabrielle Dennis as Whitney Houston, Donshea Hopkins as Bobbi Kristina Brown (Power), Mekhi Phifer as Brown’s brother, Tommy Brown, T.K. Carter as Brown’s father, Herbert “Pops” Brown, Lil Rel Howery as business manager Brian Irvine, Laz Alonzo as MCA producer-executive Louil Salas, Alyssa Goss as current wife, Alicia Etheridge, and Lance Gross, portraying the role of Steve Sealy, who was Brown’s childhood best friend who was killed in a gunfight after they’d hung out at a bar one night.

The Bobby Brown Story will premiere September 4th and September 5th at 9/8c on both nights.
