More To Bambi Than Reality Television

“They only get to see a certain part of your life and it’s not even fifty percent. It may be about fifteen percent of your life that these people are getting to watch so that’s never a good thing because you become this fifteen percent of what people get to see and there’s way more to most of us that are on that show…”  ~Bambi

If you’re a fan of reality television, you may recognize Bambi from Basketball Wives as the friend of Malaysia Pargo and now she’s a mainstay on Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta. She’s a strong Black woman and speaks her mind, but on LHHATL, she also shows a much more vulnerable side. I had the opportunity to speak with her given her busy schedule. Read along and get to know more about her.

Parlé Magazine: Reality television can be a gift and a curse, for you though, does being on a reality show help your music career?
Bambi: I’m not going to say it helps but it does expand your fan base and you have to make most of the fans understand who you are as a person and in my case, an artist. But it definitely brought in the fan base and gives you access to more people.

Parlé: In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of being on reality television?
Bambi: It’s great because it definitely is a platform for the world to see you and you to expose them to whatever business you have going on but on the flip side of that is that they only get to see a certain part of your life and it’s not even fifty percent. It may be about fifteen percent of your life that these people are getting to watch so that’s never a good thing because you become this fifteen percent of what people get to see and there’s way more to most of us that are on that show.

Parlé: What do you think are people’s biggest misconception about you?
Bambi: Well, one of the biggest misconceptions is that I’m just a grimy, ratchet chick. That definitely is a part of me, but it’s not all of me. When I was on Basketball Wives, I was with a lot of women and basically that job was to be catty. It was to interact with women. They throw you in a scene with all these girls and you have to fight; the claws come out. But there’s more to me than that. What people have gotten to see this year is me in a relationship with a guy and so people don’t really understand that part of me but, hopefully they’re getting it and they can see that it’s more to me. I am a woman at the end of the day.

Parlé: How is your relationship with Scrappy?
Bambi: It’s absolutely amazing. We’re friends and we started off as friends. When he and I really connected he was in rehab so a relationship just kind of happened after that because who I’m friends with, when they’re going through something I’m 100% there for them and down for the situation. That was something that he never really experienced in his life. Whenever he was going through something, the people around him would leave him and me just being that chick; he was just kind of intrigued and just drawn to me like, ‘Oh wow! She doesn’t want anything from me. The cameras are off. I’m going through this real situation and she’s right here’. So, our relationship kind of stemmed from that. That’s the foundation of our relationship. We’re always going to be friends and he’s always going to respect me for being the chick that I am.

Parlé: Are you working on any new music?
Bambi: I am and since I have been in a relationship with Scrappy it has been very time consuming because he requires a lot. He has a daughter and it has been hard to balance a relationship and a career at the same time but he’s definitely helping me get back to where I was before I even got in a relationship with him. So, the music is coming and it’s going to be everything my day one fans have been waiting for.

Parlé: Where can everyone hear your music?
Bambi: I have an app called the Bam and you can download it on your Iphone or your Droid in the app store and my fans who download that app gets access to whatever I drop first—a single, mixtape, whatever it is, it’s right there on that app.

Parlé: Is there anything else you would like for people to know?
Bambi: Yes, absolutely! There’s a new charity I started with the Lipstick Gang. It’s called Pink Out Poverty and that’s something that we’re really, really focused on right now. We are going around the world and helping empowering young women and it’s a really great thing. If they want to learn more about it, they can follow it on Instagram. It’s called Pink Out Poverty.

Parlé: Where can you be reached on social media?
Bambi: Everything is adizbambi (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook)
