Atlanta Music Midtown Festival Shaping Up To Be A Must-Attend Event of the Year

The idea for the Atlanta Music Midtown Festival was conceived by music composers, Alex Cooley and Peter Conlon. The festival began its tenure in 1994 and continued annually until 2005, when it was placed on hiatus, returning in 2011 better than ever.

The two-day event has continued to increase in popularity each year. Music Midtown is a festival that continues to exceed expectations. No matter what genre you prefer, there is something for everyone. The lineup is a melting pot of talent from all walks of life, including Grammy-nominated Pop superstars to hometown heroes.

Past line-ups have featured Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Elton John, Sam Smith, Big Boi and B.o.B., to name a very talented few. This does not begin to showcase the amount of talent that is involved in the festival each year. 2017’s line up does not disappoint.

Headlining the festival is ‘That’s What I Like” crooner Bruno Mars, “Mask Off” Lyricist and hometown hero Future, along with Mumford & Sons, and the iconic Blink 182.

The four-stage set up is aimed at the younger demographic, ages 18-34. According to AJC.com, Peter Conlon, President of Live Nation Atlanta, which produces Music Midtown, stated, “It’s not that the adults won’t come – they just don’t necessarily want to be around a lot of young people,” Conlon said. “You can’t mix genres. We tried to do that, but we know our market.”

This judgement has proven to be lucrative, According to Billboard, nearly 130,000 people attended last year’s two-day event, which ended with gross ticket sales totaling more than $8.6 million. According to The Research Center in Nashville, Atlanta’s economy reaped positive benefits as well, getting a $50 million boost from the 2014 installment of the festival.

Conlon, in an earlier interview with AJC.com, states that he is excited for the festival, as he remembers what the late Alex Cooley loved about the festival.

“I think Bruno will be fun,” he said. “But I like to watch the audience. Alex loved watching the audience and I learned that from him. I like to see the makeup of it – it shows you who is coming and having a good time.”

The festival will be in Atlanta on September 16 & 17 at Piedmont Park. More info at www.musicmidtown.com
