All Things Fall Apart Movie Review - Thoughts On 50 Cent Debut

The morning after I watched the world premiere of All Things Fall Apart, I received a phone call from my sister telling me that my father’s closest friend was just diagnosed with cancer and faced a long uphill battle. The news brought me right back into the theater, back into the story and back to the groans and snickers that filled the back row. Admittedly the storyline wasn’t the best, but still I appreciate the story and think it will help many people deal with life’s ailments.

All Things Fall Apart is a pet project of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Its written and stars the actor/mogul and I hear its based on a true story of one of his close friends. This is the role for which 50 lost all that weight and had pictures online of him looking extremely sick. What we didn’t know then was that it was directed by Mario Van Peebles acting from Ray Liotta, Lynn Whitfield and Peebles himself. The story follows Deon Barnes an NFL bound football player who is diagnosed with cancer and quickly thereafter his life and all things around him fall apart.

So far so good right? That’s how we all felt in the theater too, but just like his life, after about 30 minutes the movie went downhill. But with a little more editing and maybe a few scenes mixed in to make things more realistic this movie could easily become a great one before it hits theaters. Hopefully Mario, 50 and team have time to tweak it just a bit because as I mentioned, this is a story worth telling.

Newcomer, __ deserves an honorable mention as well. While — is a new face he finds a way to outshine the veteran cast members in a supporting role as — closest friend. Whether or not this movie gets the screen time, — has a bright future ahead of him.

The story however never mad theaters and the men settled for a distribution deal, which means it can be seen on BET often and is available on DVD. The film was picked up by Image Entertainment.
