ALL RISE! Judge Lola Carmichael is entering the courtroom for All Rise season 3 and it’s moving from CBS to Oprah’s OWN network series on June 07, 2022! There are a lot of court shows out there, but not quite like this one. Here we get to go behind the scenes and see what the cases are like from a Black female judge’s point of view as she deals with today’s traumas and systemic issues, as well as love, life, and the pursuit of happiness.

All Rise follows Judge Lola Carmichael, played by Simone Missick, a former deputy district attorney whose recent appointment to the Los Angeles bench brings controversy to the courtroom work group and her personal relationships. Judge Carmichael still believes in the justice system but struggles to make sure she upholds the law and maintains her personal values. Season one highlighted the difficulties of the Black Lives Matter movement. Season two focused more on the difficulties faced through the pandemic.

Here’s your first look at All Rise season 3

On August 20, 2020, it was reported that five writers left the series after clashing with the series’ showrunner, Greg Spottiswood, over how race — specifically people of color — and gender were depicted. After complaints from staff members about Spottiswood’s leadership, the human resources department of Warner Bros. Television Studios reviewed the series’ workplace and “decided to keep him as the showrunner” but hired an African American female corporate coach to guide him. On March 24, 2021, Warner Bros. Television fired Spottiswood from the series due to the misconduct allegations.

This legal drama television series was created by Greg Spottiswood and premiered on CBS on September 23, 2019, as a Monday night entry in the 2019–20 television season for CBS. In May 2021, the series was canceled after two seasons. In September of 2021 it was picked up for a third season by the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and will premiere on June 07, 2022. You can also stream season 1 and 2 on OWN, Hulu and HBO Max.

With more Black leadership behind the wheel, I’m sure there will be some noticeable changes to this show for All Rise season 3, and I can’t wait to see if I notice them. If you are a fan of this show, what do you think will be different? If you have never seen it, you have a month to get caught up and let us know what you think in the comments!
