10 African-Americans That Should Not Speak For Our Race

You Do Not Speak For Me
Ten African-Americans That Should Not Be the Spokespersons For Our Race
By Joel Jackson
Over the years, I have gotten tired of some of our “black leaders” being the spokesperson for an entire race. I am thinking to myself, “Why does the news always call this fool to speak for me?” I am sorry CNN, MSNBC, ABC, and Fox News (whenever they decide to have one of the “non-token blacks” on there), but I have my own thoughts and opinions. Now some of the following people have done great things for America, but does the good outweigh the bad???  If I offend, take it up with me or stay quiet.
1. Jesse Jackson: First of all, quit speaking like you are on Sesame Street. I don’t need you trying to rhyme all the time. If I wanna here bad lyrics, I would pop in a tape of MC Get Busy or any other broke local rapper. Second, why are you only on the news when something is going bad??? When are you ever on the news to talk about the good things that you do??? And if the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and his son is “allegedly” trying to buy a seat in the U.S. Senate, then even Stevie Wonder can put all of that together…
2. Al Sharpton: Where do I begin??? I understand that he has made some mistakes (see the Tawana Brawley case) but like Jesse Jackson, why do we only see you behind a camera when something bad is happening??? The fact that you have done some positive things in the community is wiped out when you make inflammatory racial comments. You aren’t Dr. Martin Luther King, so be Al Sharpton. Oh, and pay your taxes…
3. Tyler Perry: The Boondocks episode pretty much sums up how I feel about Tyler Perry, but I will say this. Can you make a movie and/or TV show without some sort of black stereotype in it??? Leave out Madea, soul food, the dark skinned brother that always does wrong, the electric slide, the angry black woman, and Citi Trends wardrobe. You might get more respect from Spike Lee (did I just say that???) Please and thank you…
4. Spike Lee: Dude, it is not about race all the time. Chill out. You are a great film maker, and have gotten screwed from Oscars before. Malcolm X was easily one of the best movies in the last 20 years and Bamboozled was highly underrated. How about you make a movie with an all-white cast where you make something called a regular movie??? Give me a horror, sci-fi, thriller, or something. Don’t be afraid to mix it up a little bit.
5. Cathy Hughes and her Empire: I am putting Kathy Hughes slightly ahead of my next “entity” for one reason only: “THIS IS REALITY RADIO!” Oh cry me a freaking river. You have a net worth of $500 million, which is more money than my entire family will ever see. Quit crying about the radio tax. Stick to trying to help others and watch your stock price, because it is dropping like a dancer in a Lil’ Wayne video.
6. BET: I wish this station would go away. Go far far away and never come back. But on a whole, black people still support the network, being satisfied with the minstrels and coons that populate it. This network is the single reason why everyone wants to be a rapper. News flash: The ones that are out now aren’t even that great. I would take 2Pac or Biggie over any two-bit hustler/rapper out today. ANY. Including Drake, whoever the hell he is. You ask me, I thought he was the dude that gave me my Chinese take out from the Lucky Dragon. BET needs to be ejected like a warp core, but instead it is gonna be here to stay, no matter how much we complain. I guess that could be a good thing though: The Boondocks will have more material for years to come…
7. Steve Harvey: Disclaimer: I loved the Steve Harvey Show. I hate the Steve Harvey Radio Show. Steve Harvey can be very funny, but when he wrote that book, I was done. Yeah I read it, and while there was some truth to it, at the end of the day, it was no different than any other relationship book out there. The only thing it has done is confuse some women, which has in turn confused some men. Here’s a relationship tip: COMMUNICATE!!! The End…
8. Whoopi Goldberg: Do I really need to say more???
9. Roland Martin: If I wanted a lecture, I would listen to Dr. Henry Louis Gates or Dr. Cornell West. They use things like complete sentences, coherent thoughts, and they don’t wear an ascot. Ascots should be left back in the 1800’s, along with slavery and freedom papers (unless you are in Arizona where you still need freedom papers apparently). How about when you interview someone, you allow them to talk, even if you disagree with what they are saying. That helps…
10. Tom Joyner: There is a lot of music out there. Please do not play the same 20 songs every week on your show. Also, just because a suit is green, it does not mean that it should be worn. One last note, please get on more of a variety of guests. Sheryl Underwood is just loud and obnoxious. Please find a replacement, and don’t let it be Mo’Nique. PLEASE!!!

6. BET:  Okay, so technically, BET is not a person, however, this goes out to Stephen Hill and Debra Lee.  They are surely African-Americans that should not speak for our race.  As for BET, I wish this station would go away. Go far far away and never come back. But on a whole, black people still support the network, being satisfied with the minstrels and coons that populate it. 8. Whoopi Goldberg:  The longest running token Black person on The View.  Do I really need to say more???  Whoopi Goldberg is definitely one of the African-Americans that should not speak for our race.
