It's Time To Accept TRANSAmerica

First off, I would like to state that I am a heterosexual male. I LOVE women, even though it seems like a one-way street with them and me at times. I may not be Don Juan DeMarco, but I do okay.

Transphobia is a type of phobia that refers to the discrimination against transsexualism and/or transsexual people based on the expression of their internal gender identity. Because transphobia is based on the individual’s expression of their internal gender identity this is a form of gender bias discrimination and NOT sexual orientation discrimination. Unlike drag queens and transvestites, people often incorrectly associate their gender identity with homosexuality. More and more people are coming out as transsexual every year and it’s starting to become a good number of the American population, Transamerica is becoming a real thing.

When I was younger, I would look at these people as freaks of natures and I, like most people would often ridicule and belittle them. Shows like Jerry Springer did not help to bridge the social gap; I like many people would look on at transsexuals like leapers. I wanted to get as far away from thme as possible and I would laugh uncontrollably whenever I saw one.

Now that I am older, I still do not understand it fully, but I have met some transgender people and I can say in confidence that I am much more tolerable of all people in general. There are so many things for me to be worried about in my own life to be bothered with stressing out about someone else’s.

I’m not saying we all gotta hold hands and sing like that old Coca-Cola commercial, but tolerance and acceptance works both ways, if you want people to show you some, then you have to give some.

The world is full of all types of people; we all bleed the same red blood and breathe the same air. TransAmerica is real and we just got to learn to live with it.
