Remembering Lisa Lopes on the 20th Anniversary of Left Eye's Death

This one here, is for the ‘99 and the 2000s! All my 80s and 90s babies put your lighters up as we send a blessed tribute of love, praise, admiration, honor and pure joy for our beloved Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Gone but never forgotten. April 25, 2022, marks the 20th Anniversary of Left Eye’s Death, the day she left us to go fly high among so many of our other angels. One-third of the legendary and unstoppable TLC, Lisa lost her life in a car accident in Honduras on April 25, 2002.

TLC is an R&B girl group consisting of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. They scored nine top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including four number-one singles: “Creep”, “Waterfalls”, “No Scrubs”, and “Unpretty”. The group also recorded four multi-platinum albums, including CrazySexyCool, released in 1994, which received a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). TLC also became the first R&B group in history to receive the Million certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for FanMail, released in 1999.

Like myself, many fans were in high school when the tragedy happened and linked it to others that we’d lost like Aaliyah, Tupac, Biggie, Big Pun and so many more. Personally, I was crushed and it’s still hard to believe to this day. Left Eye was my favorite of the group and she amazed me as part of the trio with her lyrics and captivating stage presence. TLC still performs all around the world but refused to replace Left Eye as they stated she was “irreplaceable”! Although the now duo did have a one season television show looking for a third member to add to the group, but no one was ever added.

It was filmed from March 30, 2002, until her death on April 25, 2002, and centered on her life, last days spent in a spiritual retreat in Honduras, and her accidental death.
